EXTRA LOVE: Necrosis of femoral head

Extra Love in September 2009

Hello, Laila,
I have great news to give you. The bone density of Extra has improved even more and she has practically recovered her normal bone density. The head of the femur has almost recovered its normal shape. To sum up, the vet doesn't understand why Extra has recovered (she says it's a miracle) and she says Extra is at a very advanced stage of healing.

Extra Love in February 2010

She would like to redo xrays in another two months to see if she's going to gain even more bone density or stay the same. Otherwise, her general state is perfect. She is running, galloping, walking on her two hind legs; I never force her and she is managing perfectly well. She isn't limping anymore at all except for that time I told you about. I thank you for all the work you have done on my little Extra. I'm so happy for her!

The evolution

Hello Laila.
In the attached document you will find the latest X-ray concerning Extra. It was done May 12, 2010 but my vet only sent it to me today.
It seems that her bone density has continued to improve and, especially, one can now perceive the part that was no longer visible.

My vet said that Extra could lead a completely normal life now since her bones have reached a satisfactory density. She added that the next X-ray to control her condition should be done in six months time.
Outside, Extra runs, jumps, plays, walks on all four paws without any problem at all.

Only sometimes, when the weather is damp, I have the impression that she is experiencing a little difficulty, but you have to know her well to discern that.
In the attached document you will see some of the photos taken a few days ago. She was 15 months old on June 10 and it is now ten months since the beginning of her necrosis.
I kiss you once again and thank you for all the help that you have given my Extra who, without your aid, would be limping with a piece of bone missing.
Kind regards,
~ Karine,
